Our Sustainability Program
Mount Lilydale Mercy College is committed to providing an educational environment that prepares students for a changing and challenging world. Sustainability topics and activities are embedded across all learning areas of the College curriculum, giving students the opportunity to experience, understand and be actively involved in achieving sustainable outcomes for issues impacting society today and into the future.
Grounded in the gospel teachings of Jesus Christ, the College is committed to engaging staff, students and the wider College community in developing an understanding of environmentally sustainable practices to ensure respect for the earth that God created.
Across the year, students can choose to take part in a diverse range of environment and sustainability co-curricular activities including: tree planting, waste, water and biodiversity audits, water sampling of local rivers through the River Detectives program, and many other activities that take place during our annual Sustainability Week. In addition to these activities, the College participates in the Resource Smart Schools Program - a Victorian Government initiative that will help our College benefit from embedding sustainability in everything we do. With continued funding support from Sustainability Victoria and the Catholic Education Office, we’re working hard to achieve a 5 Star Sustainable Certification and will continue to take action to minimise waste, save energy and water, promote biodiversity and reduce our greenhouse gas emissions where possible.
